ABOUT ME
Jacob ben Widmar recently obtained his MFA in Directing from Florida State University and is currently an Assistant Professor of Theatre at Oakland University. He is a multifaceted force within the realm of theater, seamlessly blending his talents as an actor, director, choreographer, and educator to enrich the world of performing arts. With a lifelong passion for the stage, Jacob's journey into theater began at a young age, enthralled by Disney classics, a deep-seated love for storytelling and the transformative power of performance and movement.
As an actor, Jacob worked on numerous projects. His credits include Broadway productions of The Book of Mormon, Xanadu, and Irving Berlin's White Christmas. Among many other theatrical accomplishments, he has also originated roles in productions by award-winning playwrights and directors, such as James Lapine and Douglas Carter Beane. He is currently a member of AEA, SAG-AFTRA, and AGVA.
In addition to his prowess as a performer, Jacob is a visionary director and choreographer, known for his innovative approach to staging and his keen eye for detail. With a commitment to pushing the boundaries of theatrical expression, he brings a fresh perspective to each project, infusing productions with creativity, vitality, and humor. He prides himself on finding unconventional ways to engage an audience and supporting underrepresented stories on stage.
Beyond his work on stage and behind the scenes, Jacob is a dedicated educator sharing his passion for theater with aspiring artists of all ages. Whether leading workshops, coaching actors, or teaching classes, he is committed to nurturing the next generation of talent, providing a professional-based experience and instilling in them a love for the performing arts.
